Chalk Fest 2022

Mary Ellen, Jane and I in front of the final design

I had a blast at Chalk Fest 2022. It was hosted by Charles Brennan and located at the underpass on Hanley Road at Forest Park Parkway. The theme was Missouri wildflowers, I chose the Missouri sunflower. There were 15 or so total artists who participated in beautifying the underpass. I was flattered to be one of them.

My elementary art school teacher, Mary Ellen, was the one who invited me to participate and I immediately accepted. She has been a role model to me ever since childhood. She was one of my favorite teachers at Captain Elementary. I love her creativity and kindness.

To the right is my original sketch. When I was drawing, I was thinking about traditional Ukrainian clothing and sunflowers.

It was so nice to have help shading and filling in the shapes! Especially since the area was around 11' wide by 42' high. I couldn’t have done it without the help of others.
